Chiayi Branch, Taichung Veterans General Hospital, Veterans Affairs Commission, Executive Yuan. (VHCY) has provided medical care for veterans and their families for more than 40 years. In 1994, it became an official healthcare provider of the Bureau of National Health Insurance in 1994. In July 2002, VHCY was made a egional and Academic Hospitaly the Department of Health, Executive Yuan, R.O.C. and thus became one of the most prestigious hospitals in Chiayi The hospital has fully established the following departments: Neurology, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Pulmonary medicine, Rheumatology, Immunology, Metabolism, Nephrology, General Surgery, Urology, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dentistry, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Family Medicine, Emergency, Dermatology, Anesthesiology, Rehabilitation, Radiology, Clinical and anatomical, Pathology, Traditional Medicine department. ESWL (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy) Center, Respiratory Care Unit, the dialysis center and the Cardiac Catheterization Room. The new medical and surgical intensive care units (48 beds), as well as 15 units of operation rooms are the brand-new and most advanced facilities. In order to make medical service more convenient for those who live in the downtown area, VHCY opened a branch in Chiayi City.
The hospital has 574 beds for inpatients including the acute, chronic, psychiatric and the special beds (ICU, baby, observation bed in ER, etc.) and respiratory ward. We have more than 60 physicians, 190 nurses, 70 pharmacists, 55 technicians and 60 administrative personnel. All the attending physicians were trained in several medical centers and have specialist certifications
