Standard Service Process for International Patients
Service
  • Request Message
    Receiving a request message by the operator or other units.
  • Notification
    Transferring the message to the International Medical Service Center
    1. Recording the patient's personal data and consultation result.
    2. Assisting the patient to make an appointment.
    3. Asking the patient's requirements.
  • Setting up a Medical Team
    Setting up a high-quality medical team depended on the patient's requirements, including physicians, nurses, dieticians, social workers, and so on.  
  • International Medical Service Center
    1. Arranging the patient's visa and related matters, and assisting the traffic, hotel, travel, and other plans.
    2. Arranging the time of check-in and other preparations, and asking the patient's special requirements.
    3. Communicating with the patient's original physician to know the situation.
    4. Seeing the patient's insurance and payment, and notifying the predict medical expenses.
  • Picking up, Traffic, and Hotel Arrangement
    Notifying the time to pick up or the time to check-in.

    1. Introducing the environment and service items.
    2. Providing the clinic or hospitalization descriptions
  • General Examination
    Processing basic physical examination by nurses.
  • Clinic Check in an Examination Room
    Checking and arranging advanced examinations by the physician, and assisting the hospitalization and requirements of the patient and his/her family members if necessary.
  • Hospitalization
    1. Introducing the medical team, hospitalization, and the environment, and describing instruction documents, equipment operations, and other notes.
    2. Assisting the patient's translation, description, special requirements.
    3. Introducing the meals by a dietician.
    4. Visiting and checking by the physician regularly.
    5. Arranging the service by pharmacists, social workers, and rehabilitation physicians if necessary.
  • Each Examination and Inspection
    Describing the examination items and assisting the patient to fill the consent forms by nurses.
  • Operating Arrangement
    1. Notifying the patient of the rights and preoperative preparations by nurses.
    2. Describing the operating process and related risks, explaining the consent forms and notes of the operating by the physician.
    3. Arranging psychological counseling by a psychologist if necessary.
  • Postoperative Care and Rehabilitation Treatment
    1. Arranging/Transferring the recovery environment.
    2. Calculating the expenses of patient's treatment and her/his family member's activities.
  • Discharge
    1. Arranging the related matters for the patient who will return to the residence country by the medical administrative section of the International Medical Service Center.
    2. Communicating with and providing related data to the patient's physician in the residence country.
    3. Informing the details of expenses, reconfirming the payment, and communicating with the patient's insurance company in 2 days before the discharge.
    4. Processing the payment within the 12~24 hours before discharge.
    5. Seeing off, arranging the traffic, and giving the featured gifts.
    6. Describing the health education and confirming the contact measures.
    7. Providing the revisit recommendations.
  • Follow-up After the Patient Returns to the Residence Country
    1. Send regular greeting cards and follow-up by email.
    2. Arrange matters for patients' revisit if necessary.

Introduction
Chaiyi Branch, Taichung Veterans General Hospital was transferred from Chaiyi Veterans Hospital in 2010, and its medical services were upgraded greatly. Under the promotion of the Dean, Wu Shao-Bai, according to the process of the Taichung Veterans General Hospital (VGHTC), Chaiyi Branch organized the experts of Cardiology Division and Cardiovascular Surgery Division to set up the Cardiovascular Center in September 2011, and Ting Chih-Tai, the director of VGHC, served as the director of the center. The center aimed at promoting the health of people in Yunlin and Chaiyi, and providing medical services as excellent as the level of medical center. After the establishment of the Cardiovascular Center, more than 50 major cardiac operations have implemented. It means that the medical level of Chaiyi Branch has caught up with VGHTC. Nowadays, under the instructions of new Dean, Jeng Shaw-Ye, we expect to become the outstanding Cardiology Center trusted by people and to provide advanced medical services.
In September 2011, the engineering plan of the 2nd Cardiac Catheterization Room and the space plan of the Cardiovascular Center were completed, including the Director Office, Attending Physician Office, Technician Office, and Storeroom. In addition, we planned to organize nonintrusive testing in the Cardiac Catheterization Room such as echocardiography, treadmill electrocardiography , 24-hour electrocardiography, and so on. In October 2012, these instructions started to provide complex cardiac catheterization, catheter ablation, and other medical services.

Service Process
  • a.The day before cardiac catheterization: Hospitalization and preoperative assessment
    b.The day for cardiac catheterization: Cardiac catheterization and treatment. The patient will go to a general room if there is no any issue. Those who receive interventional examination will go to ICU for the advanced observation one night..
    c.The day after cardiac catheterization: Electrocardiogram, echocardiography, chest x-ray, postoperative assessment, and discharge.
  • Medical process and route for reference
    a.Before the operating: History-taking, physical examination, electrocardiogram, echocardiography, chest x-ray, and blood collection for CBC, PT/aPTT, BUN/Creatinine, GPT/GOT, and lipid profiles. After the specialists explain the examination reports, the patient should fill the consent forms, take skin preparation (for adults and teenagers) and medicine preparation, and fast for 4~6 hours.
    b. After the operating: Physical examination, electrocardiogram, electrocardiogram, and chest x-ray [if necessary]
  • Discharge
    The patient can process discharge after would dressing and necessary examinations on the next morning.
Following Care Plan for Patients Returning to the Residence Country
Based on the referral form and discharge summary provided by VGHTC Chiayi Branch, the patient's physician in the original residence country can process the following medical care, provide medicines, and process the following examinations.

To enhance the treatment effect, the treatment of cancer often relies on the shared care with operating, chemotherapy, radiological therapy, targeted therapy, and so on. The Cancer Consolidation Treatment Center of VGHTC Chiayi Branch launches the newest instrument, the linear accelerator, to reduce each treatment time cost, and to reduce the side effect of radiological therapy.
 

The Taichung Veterans General Hospital Neurosurgery Team has brought in this new equipment for brain tumor treatment since October 2013.
